The robust manufacture and supply of defined cells at commercially relevant scales is a clear requirement for the successful implementation of future cell based therapy. This book will detail both existing industrial methods for the large scale production of a variety of cell types including stem cells as well as recent novel developments in cell culture form the bioprocessing research community. This will cover fermenter design, 2D and 3D systems, carrier materials as well as growth media and conditions. Issues around the supply chain will also be examined including current best practice and novel means currently under development. Finally how the cells are to be delivered to the patient i.e. number of cells, vehicle etc.
The book is aimed at and those at the cutting edge of bioprocessing of cell based therapeutics both within industry and academia. It is also relevant to new postgraduate students in the field.
