About the author
Orlando Figes is hoogleraar Geschiedenis aan Birkbeck College, University of London. Hij is geboren in 1959 in Londen en studeerde in 1982 cum laude af in Cambridge. Hij schreef reeds verschillende boeken over de Russische geschiedenis, waaronder het veelgeprezen Natasja’s dans: Een culturele geschiedenis van Rusland. Figes ontving verscheidene prestigieuze prijzen voor zijn werk; A People’s Tragedy werd onder meer bekroond met de W.H. Smith Literary Award, de Wolfson History Prize en de Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
